Answers to your most commonly asked questions.

Are fees covered by OHIP?

While psychotherapy is a regulated health profession in Ontario, unfortunately it is not covered under OHIP. However, many extended health benefits do cover psychotherapy services. I encourage you to speak with your insurance provider about counselling services provided by a Registered Psychotherapist to determine your eligibility. Every client is provided with a receipt with all of the information needed to facilitate reimbursement from your insurance provider.

How do I pay for sessions?

I accept payment by credit card. The secure online client portal that is used for video sessions can also process credit card payments automatically for your convenience.

Do I need a referral to see a therapist?

No, you do not need a referral to book an appointment. I welcome all youth and young adults who require support in reaching their personal goals.

Who can benefit from psychotherapy?

All of us experience periods in our lives where we can use some help, and that may be especially true for youth and young adults as they navigate personal struggles and their identity. Psychotherapy can help you gain a fresh perspective in order to better navigate the difficulties you’re facing.

I’m a parent/caregiver looking for services for my child. Am I allowed to be part of their sessions?

Youth over the age of 12 can legally access counselling on their own in Ontario, and I will happily work with them on an individual basis. However, if they are open to it, I typically encourage parents/caregivers to be present for the beginning or end of their child's appointment to offer any updates and/or receive feedback about progress and next steps.

What’s the difference between a psychotherapist, psychologist, and social worker?

There is both overlap and important differences between the various mental health care professionals. Although they all aim to help people achieve their treatment goals, each category has their own scope. A psychotherapist is a mental health professional that uses talk therapy and the development of the therapeutic relationship to bring about positive change for a client. Psychologists typically have a PhD or PsyD degree and are trained in the assessment, treatment, and prevention of behavioural and mental conditions. Social workers generally have a degree in social work and may take on a variety of roles including case management, treatment, and research/policy.
